“There was once a man named Luke Connor from this district (around Moylaw). It is often I heard by father speak of him, God rest his soul.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)our present money. However some neighbour met Luke in Ballina and soon found out about the whole affair. Luke Connor was still carrying the kind of a creel in which he had the butter. The creel was a considerable weight inself. The person told Luke to leave the basket or creel to him to carry home, and this is the answer Luke gave. "Well a stór if I left that creel off me, devil the home ever I'd reach." Apparently the poor creature was so used to carrying loads that he thought (with a certain degree of rightness) that he could not progress with out it.N.B. If the above story I heard was true then Luke Connor travelled something about 90 miles that day!.
