- A keeler was a household utensil that the people used long ago for holding milk. It was made out of wood, and a hoop (on) round it on the outside to bind it together. There was one in every house long ago. The people that used to make them were called coopers. There are not many keelers to be found now. A spit was a household utensil that was used for cooking meat. It was a rod of iron with a point on the top to put the meat in, and the other end was a loop for holding it. The spit was about a foot long.
