  1. Educated in a National School, in his Native Parish in Co Roscommon, Emigrated to America and continued his studies for the Priesthood in St Joseph's Seminary Baltimore, M.d.
    year 1918.
    The evening sun cast forth the gleam
    That marks his parting, brightest beam,
    And grand are scenes where surges roar
    And thundering 'round along the shore,
    To echo in some neighb'ing cave
    Where winds in madness seem to rave;
    The heron sad, lone, awful, shrill,
    Darts to the brake, foresakes the hill.
    The mocking - bird, on tree-top high,
    Pours forth her strain to ev'ning sky;
    E'en tho' amid this Eden fair
    My restless heart is wand'ring, where
    The river sings and streams slow move,
    Where man alike and nature love _
    Where I would wander once again
    My dear Roscommon's distant plain.
