    one to him and he would teach them. The best scholar in each class got a prize of five or six common pins. The teacher was paid by the childrens' parents at the end of each quarter.
    They paid according to the class their children were in from one shilling to half a crown. In some cases the teacher went round to the childrens' houses and taught them for his keep for that night.
