    In dungeon dark and cold

    Without a man to raise the flag
    But Johny from Kilmore.

    He dragged it from the tyrants grasp
    And planted it like new.
    The half of Erin stamped in front
    And the dear old shambrock too
    And stalworth men with willing hearts
    Before the green flag swore
    They'd fight for dear old Ireland
    And Johny from Kilmore.

    The nights were long and bright
    He took us down the lonesome fields
    And showed us how to fight
