families are living in Redgate. There were more people living there before than there are now. There were about 70 families evicted in the Meelick mountain and in Boola. Punchbowl is so called because when the soldiers were going from one place to another they drank a bowl of punch. The evicted people went to America and Australia. The most common names in this parish are Frost, White, Mc Mahon and Collins.
About 15 people are over seventy in this parish. Paddy Shaughnessy is a good story-teller.
Stonepark got its name because there was a stone wall built all round it with the park inside. The remains of the wall are still seen. It starts at the railway bridge ruins to Nix's bridge and along to Punchbowl. All the houses in Meelick were thatched. The old people know a lot of Irish words.
