    Paddy Crowe, the Clunes, and the McMahon's. Those people went to America and their land was divided amongst the people of the Glen. The first landlords were Cromwell's soldiers who came over to Ireland and got the land from Cromwell in return for their good works.

  2. In former times and up to seventy or eighty years ago tithes were collected in this country for the up keep of the Protestant Bishops and Ministers. These were collected by a man called the Tithe Proctor and he was a man that was much hated by the poor farmers in the locality in which he lived. This man's work was to go in the harvest season of the year to the farmer's fields and gardens and see what potatoes, corn, and other crops each man has. Then he would claim a certain amount of these crops which was supposed to be about the tenth part.
