  1. Patrick O'Dea was born in Caherhurley in the parish of Bodyke. As a young man he came to work with the farmers of this district. His first occupation every Sunday after Mass was throwing the weight. He had a stone with a ring in it on the road not far from our house. Every Sunday evening when all the young men of the place would gather at the crossroads they would beg in to throw the weight. They would all take turns at it but none of them could throw it as far as "Paddy" as he was commonly called. When anyone had a heavy bag or stone to lift he would say "I will get Paddy O'Dea." He is not a very tall man but he is very fat and he is about fifteen stone weight. His present address is John's Lane, Killaloe.
