    On St. martin's Day it is usual for people to draw blood, by killing a goose, or a hen or a duck or a lamb or some other animal. Superstitious people think it will prevent the other fowl from dying during the year and if the doorposts are sprinkled with the blood, it will preserve the inmates of the house from diseases during the year.
    It is said that anyone who fasts on St. Stephen's Day will be preserved from fever during all the year.
    On the Eve of St John's Day, 24th June, there are bonfires on hills and at crossroads. it is customary for the people of the district - young and old - to gather around the fire and dance the old Irish dances to the music of a melodian
