  1. During the penal days in Ireland the Irish priests were not allowed to say mass. The priests were sought after by soldiers and priest-hunters. They had to flee to the hills and mountains in order to celebrate the mass.
    Many of these hills and mountains are still known by the names of "Mass Rocks" and Mass Hills". Masses were said on hill in the townland of Mullinefrin. This townland is about two and a half miles from Belturbet. The Mass was said on Mr William Best's land. There is no trace of ithe stone now. There are three families living in it now. They are Mr W. Best, Mr Peter Kearnaghan, and Mr James Brady
