  1. Long ago before doctors were known, almost everybody had a cure for some ailment.
    To cure a wart a little bag of turf-mould was left on the road. The person that lifted the bag would take the warts.
    The mumps was cured by putting a pair of donkey's winkers on the patient and leading him round the pig-sty three times.
    It was said that the seventh son or daughter of a family had the cure of the sprain.
    Wild-fire was cured by rubbing a gold ring to it three times. A heart-burn was cured by taking boiled alder nut in the morning. Another cure was to mix soda in a drop
