    Old Pat went to Monaghan
    And then to Cootehill
    He swore before morning
    McCaffrey he'd kill.
    He then left for home
    With a cloud o'er his brain
    And he says to himself
    "Its in Alice Reilly's lane".

    The guards came from Newbliss
    This country to view
    They first went to Fred Hall
    Then to Hughie Agnew
    When McCaffrey heard the news
    He got red at the gills
    He set out from his house
    And away o'er the hills.

    When he landed at "Fobs" (Pat Ruddens)
    Old Pat was in bed
    He jumped out on the floor
    And got light in the head
    Said he to Mac Caffrey
