  1. It is considered unlucky to leave a house, and enter a new one on a Saturday. It is also unlucky to begin fresh work on Saturday, such as ploughing or sowing corn. It is considered time to begin to set potatoes on the 18th April and it is reckoned too late to set them after the 4th May.
    The "cross day" is every Friday, because on that day Our Lord was put to death on a cross. People would not eat blackberries after the 1st of October, because it is supposed that the devil shook his wings over the blackberries on that day. It is considered unlucky to get married on any day but Wednesday. it is lucky to begin work on Friday. If a mare foaled on Whit Sunday, Whit Monday, or Whit Tuesday and if the foal kicked the first person he would hit he would
