- "The race for the bottle" was a custom that prevailed at Weddings in Bailieboro District for many years. After the cermony in the Church the bridal party travelling on side-cars, proceeded to a neighbouring town where they partook of refreshments, both liquid and solid, and enjoyed (themself) themselves in a manner befitting such a joyous occasion. When evening came they proceeded towards the home of the bridegroom, singing, cheering and playing music and people working in nearby fields cheering loudly as they drove past.
