    Bird-lore
    boot when you first hear the cuckoo you will die before that following year.
    Pigeon If a pigeon comes to your house and stays at it, it is best to kill him because he brings bad luck with him.
    Curlew. If you hear the curlew whistling at night that is a sure sign of rain.

    Yellow hammer. The yellow hammer is thought to be an unlucky bird and hence the saying "The yellow yorling is the devils darling" When you hear this bird singing in summer or autumn it is a very good rich of approaching rain.
