  2. There are several hedge-schools around Mullagh during the Penal days.
    One was in Art na madra, now called "Rosehill". This school was taught by a Miss Gallagher in the beginning of the 19th century.
    A second one was in the townland of Kilbride - now called Rantavan. The teacher there was a Mr Ball. He lost the power of both legs. He drove to the "school" and to church on an ass and cart.
