    the far side of the river who wanted to get across. All the boys went on to the camp except one named, Diarmuid. He ran back, lifted the old woman in his arms and waded through the river to the other side. When he reached the camp Finn asked him why his clothes were dirty, and why he did not leap the river. Diarmuid did not answer; he did not wish to be praised for what he had done. But Finn understood and said "I choose you for I know you helped one who was poor and weak. That was a noble deed. You are fit to be on of my men."
