    Across the ocean foam.
    An exile stands with tearful eyes
    His thoughts fly back to home.
    The lark's light notes so cheerfully
    Upon his sad ears rung
    and visions rose before his mind
    Of sylvan Cornadrung."Ah, Me," he cried, "sad is my fate.
    To be compelled to fly
    Far from thou hills and valleys green
    On which I hoped to die.
    To seek a home on a foreign strand
    Across the ocean wide.
    And leave behind these sylvan shades
    Down by Lough Gowna's side.
    I think I see the landscape grand
    Rise up before me now
    The cottage to that lofty seat
    With the ivy round its brow
    Its lofty scenes and meadows green
