  1. The above road runs from Leiter Big Tree through the townlands of Killyconnan, Grellagh, Carriga, Drumhirk and Aughadreena and terminates at the "Sliding Rocks" which are in close proximity to Lavey Parochial House. It passes by Lower Lavey Catholic Church and Kilyconnan National Schools.
    The making of this road was commenced in the year 1847 and completed in the year 1848. It was the intention originally to continue this road as far as Knocknagilla, but when it was made as far as the "Sliding Rocks" referred to above, a strike among the workers took place and the work was discontinued.
    The work was carried out as a grant was given by The British Government to relieve distress in the district occasioned by the famine. The men employed on the work were paid at the rate of sixpence a day. The stones used in the making of the road were gathered by the women and children during
