    and several young girls were called Dympna after her. St dympna's feast is observed in this parish on the Sunday nearest to the 15th May. The saint was murdered by her father in Gheel and her body is buried there.

  2. St Dympna is traditionally connected with this district. The ruins of a church built under her patronage still exist. When St Dympna was fleeing from her pagan father it is said that she rested at Corawellan. She is buried at Gheel in Belgium. She had no monastery there. Lower Lavey Catholic Church is called after
