  1. In former times hedge schools did exist in this district and the three hedge schools which were in the district were kept by the O'Brien family. There were two hedge schools in Drumliff but we do not know if they existed at the same time. One was at the back of a high ivy covered ditch in the middle of Drumliff and the other was at the "boxwood rings" in upper Drumliff on the banks of the Annalee at the exact spot where Eozan Russ O'Neil is supposed to have said farewell to his army. Another hedge school in the district was at a place now called "Rudden's Hound" in the townland of Druma.
