Saint Lazerian is the patron saint of this diocese. he lived in Old Leighlin and founded a monastery there. He spent the early years of his life in Scotland. It is said that he was born towards the end of the sixth century. he is said to have been of royal decent, his father, Cairral, belonging to a princely family of Ulidia, in Ulster and his mother, Gemma, being a daughter of Aidon King of British Scots. he built a school in which there were 1,300 monks at one time. When St. Lazerian came first to Old Leighlin he could get no - place to build his church only where there was a pond. So he blessed three stones and threw them into it and the water vanished and he built his church there. It was made of wood. It was burnt down in the thirteenth century. Saint Lazerian was the first bishop of this diocese. Every boy in this parish(continues on next page)- Collector
