- Here in Kinnitty in olden times besoms were made by a man named Michael Coffey who lived at the west end of the village close to the bridge which spans the river.
His materials were a four foot hazel stick and a bunch of heather.
First of all he would put the stick into the middle of the bunch and then he tied the bunch tightly around the stick with a strong cord. When finished he sold them for one shilling each. All the villagers were glad to buy his besoms because there were no cheap brushes in those days.- Collector
