  1. Old Schools
    At Ballyboy - about six miles north east of Kinnitty a hedge-school was taught in the open - generally under a hedge. The Teacher was a stranger who would stay for about a couple of months at a time in a farmer's house. He got no money payment - but got free board and lodging so long as he remained there teaching. Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, Greek and Latin were taught and Mental Arithmetic Problems.
