- (continued from previous page)Place NamesFrom Old Irish StoriesDuleek to the Liffey in the time of Cormac Mac Art.I found this from an old cuttingThe Hill of Usnach was in the part taken from Connaught, and there the people were to meet together on the first of May, and to offer sacrifice to a Pagan God call Beal. One of the forms of this pagan worship was to drive the cattle between two fires to preserve them against disease. The first of May was called Lá Bealtine or Bealtaine, from Lá, which means a day; Beal, the name of the God; and tinne, which means fire in Gaelic. Taillteann was taken from Ulster. On the hill there, a great meeting or fair had been held every year from the time of King Lugh of the Long Arms on the 1st August. This place was near the Blackwater in Meath, between Navan and Kells.(continues on next page)
