“The landlord for Cloghan Hill or Coolreagh was Mr John King.”
This story was told to Patrick Donnelly (Hill Road) aged (11yrs) by his Grandfather, a farmer, aged (60yrs) and is written here by Michael Smith on the 7th day of March 1938.The landlord for Cloghan Hill or Coolreagh was Mr. John King. He lived in Ballylin, Ferbane. His Agent was Thomas Mullock, Killnagarna. The landlord would not let any one cut down a tree without his permission. The landlord for Cloghan, Creggan and Maugherabaun was Mr. Pott's, he lived in Correen County Galway. He evicted 15 families in the year 1881. Some got shelter from the neighbours and some got houses in the village. They had to be let back as no one would take up the land.- Of all the great events recorded in Irish History the great storm of January 6th 1839 is foremost. The evening before the people of Galway were surprised to see a red cloud resembling the form of a Gigantic man with his arms pointing down to the sea. The next day was(continues on next page)
