93 Trades Tullamore was noted for old trades in years gone by. Some of them I have heard of are - candle-making, skin-tanning, basket-making, tobacco and stuff making. The candles were made by tallow fat boiled down, and made into candles. This was done in the distillery in Harbour Street. When the skins were being tanned, the hides were brough in and dried, and manufactured into leather. Basket-making was done out by a family named Brennan of Swaddling Lane. The baskets were made by hazel sticks cut in the wood. The baskets were used in the potato season. Straw bee hives
