Old Crafts
There are not many old trades carried on in Tullamore at present, The trades that were carried on long ago are, basket making, tanning, burning of lime, spinning nail-making and candle making. Basket weaving is still carried on in Rahan. Mr Synnam is the name of the man who makes the baskets. The baskets are made with hazel scollops platted together. rushes were used long ago instead of candles. Kettles, pans, cans and pots are made by a man called George Mills who lives in Calgary Terrace. Tanning was done in the tanyard(continues on next page)- Collector
