  1. There are local beliefs in Edenderry that if the sun rises very red there will be rain and if it sets very red it is a sign of fine weather. Another belief is that if the clouds roll one way and if the wind blows the opposite way there is a storm coming. If a dog eats grass or sleeps for a long time in the day the people expect rain. Another sign of rain is when a cat scrapes her nails against a board or a wall. When a great number of glow worms shine at night it is a sign of rain.People who suffer from rheumatism or from corns say that it always rains when they feel more pains. When a frog comes into a house it is a sign that rain is coming. When the wind blows from the north it is a sign of cold dry weather. If birds fly low people expect rain.Another sign of rain is when fishes jump out of the water after flies. When a cat washes itself it is also a sign of rain.
