   One of them was ould William Whitney. the woman of the house used to be always wanten' Whitney to sing. There used to be a good fletch of mate hangin up in the chimley. Whitney an' his comrade proposed stalin the pece of mate. The next night they went prepared for to stale it. They brought a rope and a crook wud 'em. Whitney's comrade got a badder and went up on the house an let down the rope and the cook in the chimney, and Whitney went inside. When Whitney was to get an opportunity he was to hang the mate on the crook. Whitney was to sing a song when the mate was on the crook for the other fella to pull the rope. Give us a verse of a song William says the woman, but he didn't give her the verse until he had it crooked
