    Long ago a man named Wat Evoy dreamt three nights after one another, that there was a crock of gold buried in a field of my fathers called the gorteen.

    Long ago a man named Wat Evoy dreamt three nights after one another, that there was a crock of gold buried in a field of my father's called the "gorteen".
    Outside of this field there is an old rath.
    Wat came and told my father about it, and they said they would go on a certain night to dig for it.
    They were to keep this for a great secret, but uncle Jimmie, was listening to them all the time.
    So they set off on a certain night to this place and brought Holy Water, and spades, and shovels, and a big dog with them.
    When they came to the spot, where the gold was buried, they sprinkled the holy water in a ring round it to keep away the fairies.
    They commenced to dig as hard as they could, and during all this time my uncle Jimmie was watching them.
    So he went home and he and my
