    What is the news I hear today upon the breeze as fair
    What is the news I hear today upon the Barrack square
    Troops are all excited and every one seems cross
    For theres rumors of the good old boys evacuating Ross
    II
    With aching hearts we do depart from our old native town
    But who can say they knew the day that number one went down
    The lorry is now ready and we will give three ringing cheers
    We leave the town as soldiers though they call us mutineers
    III
    We know we are leaving some behind who will say we are no loss.
