    tops too. They made chasing and pegging tops. There are not many pegging tops to be seen with the the children nowadays, if there is any. This top was cut out of wood in the shape of a cone. A long nail with a pointed head was driven up through a hole in it. This top was spun - it would keep spinning for quite a long time - while a crowd of children tried to split it with long, thin strips of leather which they clasped between their fingers. There is one favourite toy of the young boys which is very old - the catapult.
