Long ago there used to be a Tannery in Carnew and people by the name of Basses used to tan leather in it.
A lot of people wear clogs still and they were worn long ago. People wear them because they last a long time. A lot of shoemakers make them still, they have wooden soles and have iron around them. They are very heavy to wear but a lot of men wear them still.
