    all they used to do was take off their coats and tie their pants above their knees.
    They used to referee long ago just like now.
    The ball they used for hurling then was a great big ball about half the size of a football.
    The goal post then was a sally switch put in the ground and bent over like an arch and called a " Bow".
    Hurlings were very popular in this district always.
    The hurleys were made with long boshes with round handles squared partly going down to the bosh, they were made of ash or black sally and sometimes elm.
