  1. During the insurrection of '98 General Madge Dixon took a prominent part in the local battles often leading the men. She was very courageous and daring did great work carrying dispatches and messages and heedless of danger to herself she was a familiar figure riding her white horse through the country.
    Old people tell us of stories hear in their childhood from grandparents of her many breathless escapes from being captured but she had many friends and was welcome to take shelter in their homes
