  1. The Howleys of Killowen (1798).
    William Howley and his sister lived in Killowen in a fine old farm-house on the banks of the Slaney, about four miles from the town of Wexford.
    It was the year of '98 when the men of Wexford were to make such a gallant stand against the English in the struggle for freedom, William Howley decided to throw in his lot with his friends and neighbours.
    One night after Wexford had been re-taken by the British Army, Howley's sister heard a knock at the door. On opening it she was astonished to see her brother outside. He came in and was having some refreshments when he heard a loud knock at the door,
