There was a snowfall in the year 1919 and in the month of February. The snow was on the ground for a month. The first Sunday that it was on the ground the people could not go to Mass because it was so high. The people made paths from Whitechurch to Ballykelly to walk on. The snow only drifted in some places. There was no snow on the main road. The snow was as high as the ditches.

Abut sixty years ago a corpse was carried from Ballysop to St. Stephen's graveyard in New Ross along the top of the drifts of snow. My grandfather was at this funeral.
