- Crossroads dances were very common up to about twenty years ago. There is a crossroads in Legga and they had a weeks dance at the crossroads. The people paid from two pence to sixpence each. Some two men went around with the plate on a Sunday night. It was called the "Ball Night". They began at 7 oclock on a summer's evening and finished dancing at ten oclock. If Sunday night came wet they would be brought to the nearest barn. They danced "Slings" "Petticoatee Reels Halfsets and some stepdancing. The musicians were John Masterson and Sons and a Pat Corrigan. The girls all wore shawls to the dances at that time. Some times they danced on the roads or in the fields if the roads were wet.
