Some years ago there was a young man in Aughakine his name was John Kavanagh. He went out to bathe along with three or four young fellows. They had a grand swim and left the water without any accident and were going home when they met a crowd of young fellows going to bathe. They asked them back with them. None of the boys went back except Kavanagh. One old man told him not to go out a second time as it was Whit Sunday but he did not heed the warning and went out. He was only a few minutes in the water when he went down out of sight and never was seen alive again.
