    dress up a May bush to welcome the Summer. Each child brought a bunch of flowers. When they had the bush dressed they selected the nicest child and dressed her up and put a crown of roses on her head; they called her the May Queen. Then they danced around it and played games. They also made a May altar and kept it dressed during the month of May. Garlic is supposed not to grow unless it is set on Good Friday and there will be a cure for a cough in it if set on that day. People used to set eggs to hatch on Good Friday because there would be a bird in every egg. They also thought it lucky to cross eggs on that day. Saint John's eve on the 23rd June is called bonfire night because the people used to light a bonfire and each man would
