  1. Like many other forts this castle stands on a high hill a mile and a half from Ballinahown. It was built by the O'Mooneys (?) sometime in the 10th Century. Close to it is another ruin said to be a monastery. The O'Mooneys were the protectors of the Monks who lived there and certain of the lands were given to them to cultivate for their own use. This land is very rich even today proving that the Monks were clever (?) farmers. The Castle attracts many tourists who visit the district.
