- Marriage CustomsThere are a great many local marriage customs. Here are some which were told to me by my mother and father.
Marriage generally take place before Shrove. Shrove Teusday is the last day for getting married before Lent.
Matches are generally made in the district. Money is given as a dowry and stock and goods. After the marriage confetti or rice is usually shaken over the bride and her husband. When they were married the bride and bridegroom went home on horse back.
