    out and was cruelly put to death. It is told that this Hempestall was a very tall man and that the poor person who was taken prisoner was hanged from his neck. That is how he got the name Walking Gallows Hempenstall. When poor Carroll was dead he was thrown into a cart, and was taken to Ballymore where a fair was being held that day. His corpse was dragging along the ground from the cart. This was done in order to frighten the natives into giving away information. His sons were also put to death.
