All the children around attended that school. Each child had to give sixpence a week. He was a native of Ballyoven and had a house and a small farm of his own. He was about ten years teaching when himself and his family were evicted and then they went to America.
There was another old school in Killard. It was built on the side of the road leading to Ballinagore. Master Breenan was the name of the master who taught there. Every morning the children attending the school brought a few sods of turf for the fire. He died forty years after.
