They sell small articles such as needles, pins, hair clips, and thread, and some people buy them from them. The "travellers" buy these things in shops. Some of these "travellers" are welcome. They do not remain at our house at all. They just call for alms. Sometimes they ask for food and at other times for money or old clothes. They travel mostly singly, and on foot. The names of the best known of these are Harry Hickey, Jack and Kate Connor, and another man who used to call was Jack from Croghan Hill. The Connors most frequently visit my district. They do not come on any special day, and they don't tell stories or bring news from distant parts.
