   If a person bought an animal, and gave half the price before hand that was called "boot".
   Hucksters, pedlars, and dealers in feathers and rags visited the district in former times. They used to sell laces, brooches, combs, pictures, pins, needles, lace, wool, and door mats. They bought feathers and rags from the people also. They still come.

2. Old Houses

   The houses which existed in the district in former times were small mudwall cabins. These houses were thatched. When oats was threshed the straw was kept to thatch the houses. The old houses had a bed in the kitchen. It was placed along the back wall and was called a settle bed. The fire-place was always at the gable wall. The
