    Potato cake was made from boiled potatoes bruised, mixed with flour, a pinch of salt and soda.
    Bread was baked in ovens and on grid-irons. Oaten bread was baked in front of the fire standing against a sod of turf. Griddle bread was used.

    Bread was made from wheat grown locally. no one remembers querns being used in the district.
