   Potato cake was made from boiled potatoes bruised, mixed with flour, a pinch of salt and soda.
   Bread was baked in ovens and on grid-irons. Oaten bread was baked in front of the fire standing against a sod of turf. Griddle bread was used.

   Oaten bread and Boxty Bread were made in the district in olden times.
   Bread was made from wheat grown locally. no one remembers querns being used in the district.
   Potato cake, oaten meal bread, and boxty were made.
