Uncle gets a piece of cord and tees it to two stakes which he sticks down firmly in the ground. This forms a line which keeps the drills straight.
He then gets a shovel, and throws the clay up, then he puts manure on every drill. Granny prepares the seed.
She cuts the potatoes, leaving an 'eye' in every piece. Uncle drops them along on the manure, and when he finishes he covers them with clay.
When the potatoes are about two months planted, he digs along in the furrow of the drill, then he gets a shovel, and puts fresh clay up on the drill.
He digs the potatoes in October. If they are early ones he digs them in July or August. Before he digs them he makes a pit in the ground, and lines it with hay. When the potatoes are dug he puts them in it. He covers them with hay or straw, then he puts clay on them also.
