    maker in her own way as she was supposed to bring the newly married pair good luck . Her job was to unpack some of the "flitting" and be there to receive the bride . The bride would arrive on a side cart driven at a mad gallop amidst shouting and cheering of friends. A party of straw-boys would then arrive. The groom would have to give them money and drink .In some cases the bride would be an unwilling subject to this marriage but as her consent was never asked she was expected to fall in with the arrangements.
